The Boys from Derby: "Out of the Deep" by Tom Sutton

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Let's kick this week off with a sensations shocker by one of our fave Boys from Derby Tom Sutton! Beware what comes..."Out of the Deep"!

From Haunted #21 (January 1975), natch!

  1. The story is relatively rough in this one, not much seems to tie together, but the visuals more than make up for it. There doesn't seem to be a single wall in the building not covered with slime, and the ghost pirates and our old god are pretty great pieces of art.

Another place where the scratchy-type art works really well for atmosphere.

  2. No artist "got" the Lovecraft thing better than Sutton. It's a pity and shame he isn't still with us to offer up the definitive Lovecraft adaptations.
